About Ascendance.
Ascendance is a one-person publication built on a simple idea: the things worth having, a stronger body, a clearer mind, a better-read portfolio, only compound when you keep climbing. Progress is slow, rarely linear, and worth it anyway. The name is the whole editorial stance in one word.
This site spans seven niches because the person writing it is genuinely interested in seven things, and pretending otherwise would be its own kind of dishonesty. The connective tissue is a method, not a topic: read carefully, report effect sizes rather than vibes, stay curious, hold conclusions loosely.
The seven niches
Climb them as a single ascent from the home page, or jump straight in:
| Niche | What lives there |
|---|---|
| ▲ Health | Research-paper reviews and coaching commentary, grounded in an ACE framework. |
| ◆ Books | Marginalia proper — what the reading left behind. |
| ◇ Philosophy | The absurd, the finite, and the practical business of living with both. |
| ◈ Data & Metrics | Reading numbers honestly. Effect sizes, baselines, and what dashboards hide. |
| ● Phones | The pocket object as tool, habit, and philosophical commitment. |
| ■ Content | Notes on making things, and the half-life of what you publish. |
| ₹ Markets | Mental models from markets. Capital, consolidation, competitive dynamics, with India in view. |
Editorial stance
Be aggressive about updating beliefs from data. Be conservative about acting on a single study. Treat the absurd as a starting condition, not a problem to be solved.
Health posts cite primary sources and report effect sizes, not just p-values. Conflicts of interest get flagged where they can be found. None of this is medical advice — when something written here contradicts your physician, your physician wins.
How it's built
Hand-written HTML, one CSS file, and vanilla JavaScript on the front end; a small PHP and MySQL backend behind it. No heavyweight framework, no build step. The ascent index on the home page is plain HTML; the motion is hand-written CSS and JavaScript; the calculators run entirely in your browser. Posts are written and edited through a private admin panel and served from the database. You can read every line.
